Case Study - Large-Scale Breakfast Catering for the NEC, Birmingham
In early August, we were contacted by a new client who found Robinson’s Catering through a Google search of ‘caterers in Birmingham’. They asked if we could prepare 300 overnight oat pots following a specific recipe and using particular ingredients, to be delivered to the NEC for a date in late September.
Although breakfast items are a regular part of our service, usually pastries, fruit and juices, this was a larger quantity than we usually prepare for a single event. However, However, as one of the most trusted names in corporate catering in Birmingham, we were excited to take on the challenge and provided a tailored quote.
From Quote to Prototype
Once the client confirmed their order, we set about creating a prototype to ensure quality and consistency. This included sourcing the right packaging, preparing ingredient and allergen labels and producing a small test batch. The results were a success!
Scaling Up Production
To our surprise, the client requested a further 300 pots for the day after the initial order. Doubling the total to 600! With careful staff planning and teamwork, we accepted the challenge.
The week of production turned out to be one of the busiest with regular corporate buffet lunches, business breakfasts and afternoon catering running alongside this large project. However, our experienced catering team came together to form an efficient production line; pouring, chopping, mixing, piping, ladling, chilling and decorating all 600 pots; 300 on one day and 300 the following day. Every pot was sealed, labelled and finished with the client’s own branding before being packed into crates ready for the 7am dispatch to the NEC.

Success relied on clear communication, both within our kitchen team and with the client, in order to maintain quality, timing and presentation across every batch.
Outstanding Results
Feedback from the event was overwhelmingly positive. Guests enjoyed the fresh, healthy breakfast pots and the client praised the professionalism, presentation and reliability of our service.
We’re proud of what we achieved and are already working with another client on an order for much larger scale breakfast catering and healthy event food options, following the recommendation of the client.
