Perfect Foods: Bringing People Together
Estimated read: 1 minute
There’s something really lovely about sharing food (unless you are Joey from ‘Friends’). Whether you're gathered around a table with friends, enjoying a lazy Sunday with family (which Nikki was this past weekend), or hosting a casual get-together, food becomes the centrepiece of connection. However, not all dishes are created equal when it comes to sharing. Some foods are made to be passed around, picked at, dipped into and enjoyed communally.
So, what makes the perfect shareable food? It’s got to be easy to portion, delicious at any temperature and inviting enough to get people coming back for seconds (and thirds).
Here's some suggestions for the ultimate foods for sharing:
Charcuterie Boards
You can’t go wrong with a well-curated charcuterie board. Meats, cheeses, crackers, fruits, nuts - every bite is a choose-your-own-adventure. The beauty of a charcuterie spread is its versatility. It can be rustic and simple or fancy and artistic. Plus, an added bonus is that there is no cooking required!
Dips and Spreads
Hummus, guacamole, spinach-artichoke dip, buffalo chicken dip, the list goes on... Pair them with pita, crisps or veggie sticks and you’ve got instant crowd-pleasers. Most dips can be made ahead of time and served cold or warm (or cheat any buy a few).
Pizza
Classic, universally loved and infinitely customisable. Whether you're slicing up a wood-fired Neapolitan pie or sharing a few large delivery pizzas, everyone can find a topping they love. Cut into smaller squares for even more pass-around potential.
Sushi Platters
For something a little more elevated, sushi platters offer variety and elegance. Rolls, nigiri and sashimi can be easily shared and it encourages guests to try new combinations. Just don’t forget the soy sauce and wasabi.
Wings and Drumsticks
Sticky, saucy and satisfying. Wings (and their close cousins, drumsticks) are always a hit - especially at game nights or late night hangouts. Offer a few sauce options (buffalo, BBQ, garlic parmesan) and watch them disappear!
Dessert Samplers
Why settle for one dessert when you can have a little of everything? Think brownie bites, mini cheesecakes, cookies or fruit tarts. Dessert platters are perfect for mingling because people can grab a small sweet bite without committing to a full slice (and small bites don’t count, calorie wise, do they?!)
Sharing food is about more than just eating - it’s about laughter, stories and moments created over a shared plate. There were lots of these moments for Nikki at the weekend! So next time you’re hosting or planning a get-together, skip the formal plated dinner and go for food that brings people together naturally. After all, the best meals are the ones we don’t just eat, but share.
What about you – what’s your go to food for sharing?
