Bake Off Returns: Does this Mean Autumn is Coming?

 

As August creeps towards it’s end there are a few key signs that autumn is on the way in. The nights are getting a little shorter (way too soon), the leaves start thinking about turning golden (that’s already started, perhaps due to the lack of rain this season) and perhaps most importantly, especially for us in the culinary world… the Great British Bake Off returns to our TV screens! 

 

Yes, it’s that time again! A new series of Bake Off is about to begin and we all know what that means for those who watch the show. It’s the gentle sound of cake-based panic under a marquee! Whether you’re in it for the baking inspiration, the chaotic showstoppers or just to listen to the presenters make obscure jokes while holding a tray of biscuits, the show never fails to deliver a warm, buttery dose of comfort. 

Bake Off starting up again just feels right. Like putting on your favourite jumper or making that first proper cup of hot chocolate. It marks the unofficial start of the cosiest season. Soon we'll all be lighting candles, stocking up on cinnamon (for our Autumnal biscuits) and pretending we know the difference between a genoise and Victoria sponge. Do you? 

 

As the new bakers step into the tent, ready to whisk, knead and crumble their way into our hearts, we’re here for every moment. Let the drama unfold (but hopefully not the pastry). 

 

We asked some of our team what their go to ‘Bake Off’ audition dish would be and we got a very mixed reaction… Some went full on sweet, with a multi-coloured rainbow cake and battenburg cake being the top choice, whilst others went savoury with simple cheese twists and sausage rolls hitting the mark.
