Patients at Hospital Provided with Better Catering Choices

28th October, 2010

A recent scheme put in place by the Nutrition and Food Services for Cape Breton District Health Authority has provided patients of the Cape Breton Regional Hospital with a larger variety of meals to select from a caterer in the region.

The "Dial for Dining" service can be accessed by the patient's dieticians by dialling 555 within the hospital at any time. They will then be provided with a choice of 35 nutritional meals from the hospital caterer, including chicken wraps, pasta and fresh fruit.

Clinical Nutrition Manager for the authority, Susan Taylor, claims the service was started to give patients more options about their nutritional intake. She claims "The idea of empowering our patients goes against our established medical model where we are the authorities and we tell people when to eat and what to eat".
